Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Healthcare, REITs and Real Estate sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 1.49% to hit a new 1-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were MAG Silver Corp (TSX:MAG), which rose 19.37% or 2.64 points to trade at 16.27 at the close. BRP Inc (TSX:DOO) added 12.72% or 4.00 points to end at 35.45 and Canopy Growth Corp (TSX:WEED) was up 12.32% or 2.695 points to 24.575 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Secure Energy Services Inc . (TSX:SES), which lost 4.50% or 0.05 points to trade at 1.06 in late trade. Centerra Gold Inc (TSX:CG) declined 4.05% or 0.50 points to end at 11.84 and Whitecap Resources Inc . (TSX:WCP) shed 3.73% or 0.05 points to 1.29.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 761 to 311 and 82 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.59% or 10.25 to $1725.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 23.49% or 3.98 to hit $12.96 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 7.05% or 1.75 to trade at $23.06 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.48% to 0.7122, while CAD/EUR rose 0.40% to 0.6575.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.29% at 100.138.
