Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the IT, Energy and Industrials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 1.41% to hit a new all time high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were TransAlta Corp (TSX:TA), which rose 5.92% or 0.85 points to trade at 15.22 at the close. NuVista Energy Ltd . (TSX:NVA) added 5.83% or 0.78 points to end at 14.17 and Cameco Corp (TSX:CCO) was up 5.60% or 4.51 points to 85.08 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Aya Gold & Silver Inc (TSX:AYA), which lost 3.84% or 0.51 points to trade at 12.76 in late trade. First Majestic Silver Corp. (TSX:AG) declined 1.53% or 0.14 points to end at 9.01 and Premium Brands Holdings Corporation (TSX:PBH) shed 1.36% or 1.09 points to 79.25.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 576 to 359 and 103 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 6.96% to 10.96.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.75% or 19.85 to $2,671.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 1.96% or 1.35 to hit $70.10 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 1.95% or 1.42 to trade at $74.23 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.03% to 0.72, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.69% to 0.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.38% at 107.02.
