Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Energy, Healthcare and Materials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 1.19% to hit a new 3-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Lightspeed POS Inc (TSX:LSPD), which rose 9.78% or 3.70 points to trade at 41.54 at the close. Enerplus Corporation (TSX:ERF) added 9.06% or 0.30 points to end at 3.61 and Centerra Gold Inc (TSX:CG) was up 8.10% or 1.36 points to 18.16 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Spin Master Corp (TSX:TOY), which lost 7.77% or 1.94 points to trade at 23.04 in late trade. Colliers International Group Inc Bats (TSX:CIGI) declined 4.90% or 3.55 points to end at 68.90 and Intertape Polymer Group Inc . (TSX:ITP) shed 4.06% or 0.65 points to 15.35.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 693 to 379 and 118 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for October delivery was up 2.38% or 46.90 to $2021.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 1.27% or 0.52 to hit $41.53 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 0.36% or 0.16 to trade at $44.31 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.48% to 0.7503, while CAD/EUR rose 0.22% to 0.6360.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.25% at 93.270.
