Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Energy, Industrials and Materials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.59%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Ero Copper Corp (TSX:ERO), which rose 11.89% or 2.91 points to trade at 27.38 at the close. NexGen Energy Ltd. (TSX:NXE) added 10.98% or 0.550 points to end at 5.560 and HudBay Minerals Inc (TSX:HBM) was up 7.85% or 0.72 points to 9.89 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Kinaxis Inc (TSX:KXS), which lost 5.78% or 8.94 points to trade at 145.69 in late trade. Ballard Power Systems Inc (TSX:BLDP) declined 5.70% or 1.14 points to end at 18.85 and Cominar Real Estate Investment Trust (TSX:CUF_u) shed 3.69% or 0.37 points to 9.67.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 631 to 411 and 117 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.48% or 8.55 to $1784.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 0.67% or 0.44 to hit $65.25 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 0.38% or 0.26 to trade at $68.62 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.23% to 0.8142, while CAD/EUR rose 0.41% to 0.6786.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.42% at 91.308.
