Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Healthcare, Materials and Energy sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.21%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Aphria Inc (TSX:APHA), which rose 8.49% or 0.570 points to trade at 7.280 at the close. Yamana Gold Inc (TSX:YRI) added 7.43% or 0.33 points to end at 4.77 and Mullen Group Ltd . (TSX:MTL) was up 6.46% or 0.51 points to 8.41 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Celestica Inc. (TSX:CLS), which lost 7.12% or 0.64 points to trade at 8.35 in late trade. Hexo Corp (TSX:HEXO) declined 6.04% or 0.2000 points to end at 3.1100 and Boyd Group Income Fund (TSX:BYD_u) shed 5.39% or 9.94 points to 174.50.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 614 to 410 and 144 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 3.24% to 11.36 a new 1-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.16% or 2.45 to $1507.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 0.76% or 0.43 to hit $56.66 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 0.50% or 0.31 to trade at $61.98 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.10% to 0.7658, while CAD/EUR rose 0.37% to 0.6915.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.20% at 97.597.
