Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Healthcare, IT and Energy sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.20%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Tilray Inc (TSX:TLRY), which rose 10.46% or 0.34 points to trade at 3.59 at the close. Energy Fuels Inc. (TSX:EFR) added 3.18% or 0.30 points to end at 9.73 and Tamarack Valley Energy Ltd (TSX:TVE) was up 2.83% or 0.10 points to 3.63 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Aritzia Inc (TSX:ATZ), which lost 4.25% or 1.09 points to trade at 24.58 in late trade. National Bank of Canada (TSX:NA) declined 3.91% or 3.93 points to end at 96.54 and Quebecor Inc Class B (TSX:QBRb) shed 3.21% or 1.03 points to 31.10.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 540 to 442 and 99 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 1.13% to 11.37.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.32% or 6.25 to $1,971.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 0.69% or 0.56 to hit $81.72 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 0.45% or 0.38 to trade at $85.29 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.14% to 0.74, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.27% to 0.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.36% at 103.10.
