Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Healthcare, Energy and REITs sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.02%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Pure Industrial REIT (TO:AAR_u), which rose 20.39% or 1.37 points to trade at 8.09 at the close. Canopy Growth Corp (TO:WEED) added 5.87% or 2.340 points to end at 42.200 and CES Energy Solutions Corp (TO:CEU) was up 4.81% or 0.300 points to 6.540 in late trade.
Biggest losers included SSR Mining Inc (TO:SSRM), which lost 6.96% or 0.73 points to trade at 9.76 in late trade. Eldorado Gold Corporation (TO:ELD) declined 6.06% or 0.10 points to end at 1.55 and Pretium Resources Inc. (TO:PVG) shed 6.01% or 0.83 points to 12.98.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 613 to 570 and 107 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 0.78% to 11.50.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.45% or 6.00 to $1314.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 2.02% or 1.25 to hit $62.98 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 1.52% or 1.03 to trade at $68.81 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.35% to 0.8023, while CAD/EUR fell 0.12% to 0.6720.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.15% at 92.22.
