Investing.com – Brazil equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Basic Materials, Financials and Real Estate sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa declined 2.43%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Cielo SA (SA:CIEL3), which rose 4.02% or 1.35 points to trade at 34.93 at the close. Suzano Papel e Celulose SA (SA:SUZB5) added 3.38% or 0.44 points to end at 13.47 and Estacio Participacoes SA (SA:ESTC3) was up 0.90% or 0.11 points to 12.33 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Usinas Siderurgicas de Minas Gerais (SA:USIM5), which lost 7.63% or 0.19 points to trade at 2.30 in late trade. Metalurgica Gerdau SA (SA:GOAU4) declined 6.74% or 0.19 points to end at 2.63 and Vale SA (SA:VALE5) shed 6.53% or 1.02 points to 14.61.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 207 to 87 and 20 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 2.81% to 44.30.
In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was down 0.57% or 7.35 to $1288.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 1.76% or 0.79 to hit $43.99 a barrel, while the July US coffee C contract fell 0.12% or 0.14 to trade at $119.78 .
USD/BRL was up 1.73% to 3.5627, while EUR/BRL rose 1.64% to 4.1033.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.43% at 92.93.
