Investing.com – Brazil equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Electric Power, Consumption and Financials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa lost 0.63%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Suzano Papel e Celulose SA (SA:SUZB5), which rose 4.47% or 0.56 points to trade at 13.08 at the close. Fibria Celulose SA (SA:FIBR3) added 3.34% or 1.04 points to end at 32.16 and Braskem SA (SA:BRKM5) was up 3.12% or 0.77 points to 25.42 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Lojas Americanas SA (SA:LAME4), which lost 6.01% or 0.98 points to trade at 15.32 in late trade. Gerdau SA (SA:GGBR4) declined 5.73% or 0.45 points to end at 7.40 and Petroleo Brasileiro SA (SA:PETR4) shed 4.64% or 0.45 points to 9.24.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 173 to 145 and 20 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 13.82% to 47.77 a new 1-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was down 0.06% or 0.80 to $1233.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 0.89% or 0.37 to hit $41.34 a barrel, while the July US coffee C contract rose 0.90% or 1.12 to trade at $125.97 .
USD/BRL was up 1.80% to 3.6137, while EUR/BRL rose 2.07% to 4.0880.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.23% at 94.46.
