Brazil shares lower at close of trade; Bovespa down 0.47%

Investing.com – Brazil equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Basic Materials, Industrials and Real Estate sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa lost 0.47% to hit a new 1-month low.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were CEMIG - Companhia Energetica Minas Gerais Pref (SA:CMIG4), which rose 3.92% or 0.51 points to trade at 13.53 at the close. MRV Engenharia e Participacoes SA (SA:MRVE3) added 3.25% or 0.40 points to end at 12.70 and Gol Linhas Aereas Inteligentes SA Pref (SA:GOLL4) was up 3.21% or 0.79 points to 25.38 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Cielo SA (SA:CIEL3), which lost 5.14% or 0.49 points to trade at 9.05 in late trade. Usinas Siderurgicas de Minas Gerais (SA:USIM5) declined 4.64% or 0.45 points to end at 9.25 and Gerdau SA Pref (SA:GGBR4) shed 3.96% or 0.60 points to 14.55.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 284 to 166 and 34 ended unchanged on the BM&FBovespa Stock Exchange.

The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 1.28% to 35.34.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.76% or 9.50 to $1265.90 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 4.24% or 2.04 to hit $46.13 a barrel, while the March US coffee C contract rose 1.49% or 1.50 to trade at $102.35 .

USD/BRL was down 1.42% to 3.8423, while EUR/BRL fell 0.64% to 4.4063.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.76% at 95.752.
