Investing.com – Brazil equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Real Estate, Electric Power and Basic Materials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa rose 0.18% to hit a new 52-week high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Cia Energetica de Sao Paulo (SA:CESP6), which rose 18.82% or 2.39 points to trade at 15.09 at the close. Usinas Siderurgicas de Minas Gerais (SA:USIM5) added 8.29% or 0.18 points to end at 2.35 and Cia Siderurgica Nacional SA (SA:CSNA3) was up 4.81% or 0.47 points to 10.25 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Cia de Saneamento Basico do Estado (SA:SBSP3), which lost 3.14% or 0.95 points to trade at 29.30 in late trade. Cosan SA Industria e Comercio (SA:CSAN3) declined 3.09% or 1.08 points to end at 33.82 and Embraer SA (SA:EMBR3) shed 2.63% or 0.47 points to 17.41.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 186 to 139 and 17 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 0.52% to 34.24 a new 6-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold for August delivery was up 0.25% or 3.30 to $1335.50 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 1.03% or 0.47 to hit $46.15 a barrel, while the September US coffee C contract fell 3.36% or 5.12 to trade at $147.45 .
USD/BRL was up 0.95% to 3.2835, while EUR/BRL rose 0.25% to 3.6257.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.54% at 96.62.
