Investing.com – Brazil equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Electric Power, Basic Materials and Financials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa rose 1.69%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Metalurgica Gerdau SA (SA:GOAU4), which rose 12.47% or 0.49 points to trade at 4.42 at the close. Estacio Participacoes SA (SA:ESTC3) added 8.94% or 1.43 points to end at 17.43 and Smiles ON (SA:SMLE3) was up 8.60% or 4.99 points to 63.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Tim Participacoes SA (SA:TIMP3), which lost 3.00% or 0.29 points to trade at 9.37 in late trade. Embraer SA (SA:EMBR3) declined 1.62% or 0.25 points to end at 15.15 and BRF SA (SA:BRFS3) shed 1.20% or 0.49 points to 40.45.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 296 to 89 and 26 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 13.01% to 43.79.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.17% or 2.11 to $1254.91 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 2.17% or 1.07 to hit $50.42 a barrel, while the July US coffee C contract rose 1.97% or 2.55 to trade at $132.02 .
USD/BRL was down 3.50% to 3.2523, while EUR/BRL fell 2.61% to 3.6444.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.76% at 97.03.
