Investing.com – China equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Financials, Life Insurance and Banking sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Shanghai, the Shanghai Composite rose 0.86% to hit a new 3-year high, while the SZSE Component index gained 0.53%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Shanghai Composite were China Cnr (SS:601299), which rose 10.02% or 2.030 points to trade at 22.280 at the close. Feilo (SS:600654) added 10.02% or 1.260 points to end at 13.830 and Times New Mat (SS:600458) was up 10.02% or 1.730 points to 18.990 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Baosight (SS:600845), which lost 6.89% or 4.360 points to trade at 58.880 in late trade. Hunan Chendian (SS:600969) declined 6.83% or 1.800 points to end at 24.540 and Hongfa Tech (SS:600885) shed 6.22% or 1.980 points to 29.850.
The top performers on the SZSE Component were Ping An Bank Co Ltd (SZ:000001) which rose 6.60% to 17.92, Jiangsu Yanghe Brewery Joint-Stock Co Ltd (SZ:002304) which was up 5.74% to settle at 89.51 and Bank of Ningbo Co Ltd (SZ:002142) which gained 5.61% to close at 19.59.
The worst performers were BYD Co Ltd (SZ:002594) which was down 4.16% to 57.88 in late trade, Suzhou Gold Mantis Construction Decoration Co Ltd (SZ:002081) which lost 4.12% to settle at 32.85 and AVIC Aircraft Co Ltd (SZ:000768) which was down 3.87% to 27.59 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 646 to 322 on the Shanghai Stock Exchange.
The CBOE China Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Shanghai Composite options, was down 0.12% to 24.35.
In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was up 0.05% or 0.60 to $1211.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 1.99% or 1.07 to hit $52.91 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 1.27% or 0.75 to trade at $58.35 a barrel.
USD/CNY was up 0.10% to 6.2045, while EUR/CNY rose 0.58% to 6.7405.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.53% at 97.73.
