Investing.com – Brazil equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Financials, Public Utilities and Electric Power sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa rose 0.82% to hit a new 1-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Kroton Educacional SA (SA:KROT3), which rose 4.04% or 0.57 points to trade at 14.67 at the close. Estacio Participacoes SA (SA:ESTC3) added 4.04% or 0.67 points to end at 17.26 and Cosan SA Industria e Comercio (SA:CSAN3) was up 3.60% or 1.38 points to 39.74 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Vale SA (SA:VALE3), which lost 3.93% or 1.25 points to trade at 30.57 in late trade. Vale SA Pref (SA:VALE5) declined 1.96% or 0.57 points to end at 28.49 and Cielo SA (SA:CIEL3) shed 1.74% or 0.45 points to 25.46.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 253 to 150 and 31 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 2.21% to 32.84.
In commodities trading, Gold for February delivery was up 1.59% or 19.05 to $1215.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 0.23% or 0.12 to hit $52.49 a barrel, while the March US coffee C contract rose 0.58% or 0.87 to trade at $149.90 .
USD/BRL was down 0.98% to 3.2096, while EUR/BRL rose 0.02% to 3.4374.
The US Dollar Index was down 1.18% at 100.33.
