Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the IT, Banking and Technology sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 1.35% to hit a new 1-month low, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 1.48%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Idea Cellular Ltd (NS:IDEA), which rose 3.05% or 4.00 points to trade at 134.95 at the close. Asian Paints Ltd. (NS:ASPN) added 1.75% or 14.10 points to end at 821.75 and GAIL Ltd (NS:GAIL) was up 0.91% or 2.80 points to 308.90 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC), which lost 5.32% or 4.30 points to trade at 76.55 in late trade. Infosys Ltd (NS:INFY) declined 3.91% or 41.50 points to end at 1020.00 and TATA STEEL LIMITED (NS:TISC) shed 3.71% or 8.70 points to 225.85.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Gail (India) Ltd. (BO:GAIL) which rose 0.95% to 309.45, Coal India Limited (BO:COAL) which was up 0.83% to settle at 334.95 and NTPC Limited (BO:NTPC) which gained 0.72% to close at 133.15.
The worst performers were Hindalco Industries Ltd. (BO:HALC) which was down 5.07% to 76.70 in late trade, Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which lost 3.89% to settle at 1019.85 and TATA STEEL LIMITED (BO:TISC) which was down 3.69% to 225.85 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 950 to 501 and 10 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 534 fell and 261 advanced, while 12 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 2.61% to 17.4150.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was up 0.02% or 0.20 to $1068.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 1.59% or 0.65 to hit $41.31 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 2.09% or 0.91 to trade at $44.48 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.47% to 66.290, while EUR/INR rose 0.70% to 70.7110.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.17% at 99.55.
