Investing.com – U.S. equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Technology, Consumer Goods and Consumer Services sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 1.01%, while the S&P 500 index declined 1.73%, and the NASDAQ Composite index fell 2.53%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Travelers Companies (NYSE:TRV), which rose 1.13% or 2.61 points to trade at 234.46 at the close. McDonald’s Corporation (NYSE:MCD) added 0.53% or 1.54 points to end at 289.51 and Visa Inc Class A (NYSE:V) was up 0.27% or 0.75 points to 279.37 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ:AMZN), which lost 3.65% or 6.50 points to trade at 171.39 in late trade. American Express Company (NYSE:AXP) declined 3.09% or 7.78 points to end at 244.06 and Boeing Co (NYSE:BA) shed 2.79% or 4.53 points to 157.62.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Dollar General Corporation (NYSE:DG) which rose 2.70% to 82.58, SBA Communications Corp (NASDAQ:SBAC) which was up 2.20% to settle at 238.51 and Crown Castle International Corp (NYSE:CCI) which gained 1.98% to close at 116.12.
The worst performers were Broadcom Inc (NASDAQ:AVGO) which was down 10.36% to 137.00 in late trade, Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) which lost 8.45% to settle at 210.73 and Albemarle Corp (NYSE:ALB) which was down 6.90% to 76.90 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Tenon Medical Inc (NASDAQ:TNON) which rose 549.44% to 3.92, Wheeler Real Estate Investment Trust Inc (NASDAQ:WHLR) which was up 147.58% to settle at 10.25 and BloomZ Inc (NASDAQ:BLMZ) which gained 118.52% to close at 1.77.
The worst performers were Autozi Internet Technology (NASDAQ:AZI) which was down 28.18% to 1.30 in late trade, Rent the Runway Inc (NASDAQ:RENT) which lost 27.72% to settle at 10.90 and Inspire Veterinary Partners Inc (NASDAQ:IVP) which was down 25.43% to 0.87 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 2155 to 671 and 76 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2541 fell and 771 advanced, while 97 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 12.46% to 22.38.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.70% or 17.90 to $2,525.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 1.49% or 1.03 to hit $68.12 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 1.66% or 1.21 to trade at $71.48 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.22% to 1.11, while USD/JPY fell 0.78% to 142.32.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.08% at 101.15.
