Investing.com – U.S. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Oil & Gas, Consumer Goods and Telecoms sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.14%, while the S&P 500 index declined 0.16%, and the NASDAQ Composite index lost 0.05%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Boeing Co (NYSE:BA), which rose 4.24% or 7.58 points to trade at 186.48 at the close. Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ:AMZN) added 2.11% or 3.86 points to end at 186.41 and Travelers Companies (NYSE:TRV) was up 1.51% or 3.11 points to 208.53 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS), which lost 3.39% or 3.19 points to trade at 90.94 in late trade. McDonald’s Corporation (NYSE:MCD) declined 2.12% or 5.49 points to end at 254.05 and Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE) shed 1.95% or 1.46 points to 73.40.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Pentair PLC (NYSE:PNR) which rose 9.00% to 87.19, MSCI Inc (NYSE:MSCI) which was up 7.90% to settle at 546.01 and Sherwin-Williams Co (NYSE:SHW) which gained 6.87% to close at 344.50.
The worst performers were United Parcel Service Inc (NYSE:UPS) which was down 12.05% to 127.68 in late trade, PACCAR Inc (NASDAQ:PCAR) which lost 10.97% to settle at 97.10 and Smith AO Corporation (NYSE:AOS) which was down 9.39% to 80.47 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Nauticus Robotics Inc (NASDAQ:KITT) which rose 3,545.48% to 3.27, Regencell Bioscience Holdings Ltd (NASDAQ:RGC) which was up 343.92% to settle at 14.96 and Salarius Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:SLRX) which gained 69.48% to close at 2.61.
The worst performers were FlyE Group Inc (NASDAQ:FLYE) which was down 81.66% to 1.17 in late trade, Transcode Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:RNAZ) which lost 61.70% to settle at 0.30 and Jaguar Health Inc (NASDAQ:JAGX) which was down 58.78% to 1.76 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1521 to 1308 and 89 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1979 rose and 1341 declined, while 137 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 1.27% to 14.72.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.55% or 13.25 to $2,407.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 1.21% or 0.95 to hit $77.45 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 1.03% or 0.85 to trade at $81.55 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.33% to 1.09, while USD/JPY fell 0.89% to 155.60.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.13% at 104.18.
