Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Technology, Consumer Services and Industrials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 1.86%, while the S&P 500 index climbed 2.65%, and the NASDAQ Composite index added 3.43%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were JPMorgan Chase & Co (NYSE:JPM), which rose 4.20% or 4.67 points to trade at 115.86 at the close. Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) added 3.92% or 8.97 points to end at 237.53 and American Express Company (NYSE:AXP) was up 3.46% or 4.73 points to 141.54 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc (NASDAQ:WBA), which lost 0.72% or 0.24 points to trade at 33.00 in late trade. 3M Company (NYSE:MMM) added 0.20% or 0.23 points to end at 113.86 and Dow Inc (NYSE:DOW) gained 0.31% or 0.14 points to 45.26.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Ceridian HCM Holding Inc (NYSE:CDAY) which rose 8.04% to 56.02, DISH Network Corporation (NASDAQ:DISH) which was up 7.33% to settle at 13.91 and Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) which gained 7.01% to close at 219.35.
The worst performers were Fox Corp Class A (NASDAQ:FOXA) which was down 9.41% to 28.58 in late trade, Fox Corp Class B (NASDAQ:FOX) which lost 8.09% to settle at 26.80 and Kroger Company (NYSE:KR) which was down 2.43% to 42.11 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Acorda Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:ACOR) which rose 167.52% to 0.90, Inpixon (NASDAQ:INPX) which was up 90.59% to settle at 9.11 and Fednat Holding Co (NASDAQ:FNHC) which gained 60.35% to close at 0.83.
The worst performers were NGM Biopharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:NGM) which was down 70.48% to 3.41 in late trade, Minerva Neurosciences Inc (NASDAQ:NERV) which lost 69.55% to settle at 4.09 and Intelligent Living Application Group Inc (NASDAQ:ILAG) which was down 54.07% to 2.99 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2643 to 491 and 105 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2885 rose and 896 declined, while 231 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 2.03% to 31.37.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.34% or 5.65 to $1,654.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December unchanged 0.00% or 0.00 to hit $84.65 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 0.15% or 0.14 to trade at $91.77 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 1.22% to 0.98, while USD/JPY rose 0.21% to 149.05.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 1.05% at 112.01.
