Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Technology, Consumer Goods and Consumer Services sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.58% to hit a new 1-month high, while the S&P 500 index added 0.97%, and the NASDAQ Composite index gained 1.37%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were McDonald’s Corporation (NYSE:MCD), which rose 3.25% or 9.06 points to trade at 287.55 at the close. Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) added 3.09% or 0.65 points to end at 21.52 and Amgen Inc (NASDAQ:AMGN) was up 2.05% or 6.58 points to 328.02 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Dow Inc (NYSE:DOW), which lost 0.48% or 0.26 points to trade at 53.65 in late trade. Visa Inc Class A (NYSE:V) declined 0.34% or 0.91 points to end at 266.47 and Chevron Corp (NYSE:CVX) shed 0.30% or 0.44 points to 146.83.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were EQT Corporation (NYSE:EQT) which rose 4.88% to 33.72, Advanced Micro Devices Inc (NASDAQ:AMD) which was up 4.54% to settle at 155.30 and Darden Restaurants Inc (NYSE:DRI) which gained 4.41% to close at 149.68.
The worst performers were HP Inc (NYSE:HPQ) which was down 3.65% to 34.60 in late trade, Starbucks Corporation (NASDAQ:SBUX) which lost 2.65% to settle at 92.30 and Domino’s Pizza Inc (NYSE:DPZ) which was down 2.27% to 432.84 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Better Home & Finance Holding Co (NASDAQ:BETR) which rose 4,995.48% to 20.28, Alzamend Neuro Inc (NASDAQ:ALZN) which was up 185.71% to settle at 5.80 and NuCana PLC (NASDAQ:NCNA) which gained 181.16% to close at 9.70.
The worst performers were Liquidia Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:LQDA) which was down 30.62% to 9.79 in late trade, Cingulate Inc (NASDAQ:CING) which lost 27.64% to settle at 12.80 and Yunji Inc (NASDAQ:YJ) which was down 26.27% to 0.56 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2120 to 724 and 78 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2390 rose and 961 declined, while 110 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 1.01% to 14.65 a new 1-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.20% or 5.05 to $2,542.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 2.33% or 1.76 to hit $73.78 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 2.38% or 1.90 to trade at $77.78 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.51% to 1.11, while USD/JPY fell 0.65% to 146.62.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.57% at 101.73.
