Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Industrials, Telecoms and Financials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.36% to hit a new all time high, while the S&P 500 index added 0.22%, and the NASDAQ Composite index added 0.32%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc (NASDAQ:WBA), which rose 2.55% or 0.56 points to trade at 22.56 at the close. Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS) added 2.17% or 2.02 points to end at 95.08 and UnitedHealth Group Incorporated (NYSE:UNH) was up 1.93% or 9.71 points to 513.27 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Home Depot Inc (NYSE:HD), which lost 1.57% or 5.68 points to trade at 356.73 in late trade. Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE) declined 1.24% or 1.26 points to end at 100.52 and McDonald’s Corporation (NYSE:MCD) shed 0.71% or 2.12 points to 298.41.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were VF Corporation (NYSE:VFC) which rose 5.00% to 16.50, Albemarle Corp (NYSE:ALB) which was up 4.90% to settle at 120.77 and Synopsys Inc (NASDAQ:SNPS) which gained 4.72% to close at 541.71.
The worst performers were Archer-Daniels-Midland Company (NYSE:ADM) which was down 24.43% to 51.53 in late trade, Gilead Sciences Inc (NASDAQ:GILD) which lost 10.15% to settle at 78.43 and Bunge Limited (NYSE:BG) which was down 4.22% to 88.77 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Sagimet Biosciences Inc (NASDAQ:SGMT) which rose 170.09% to 18.42, Digital World Acquisition Corp (NASDAQ:DWAC) which was up 88.36% to settle at 49.69 and Brera Holdings PLC (NASDAQ:BREA) which gained 64.39% to close at 2.17.
The worst performers were Evaxion Biotech AS (NASDAQ:EVAX) which was down 45.36% to 3.66 in late trade, Processa Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:PCSA) which lost 44.33% to settle at 2.51 and Virios Therapeutics Llc (NASDAQ:VIRI) which was down 40.27% to 0.48 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2126 to 756 and 68 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2384 rose and 1090 declined, while 83 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 0.83% to 13.19.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.36% or 7.35 to $2,021.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 1.79% or 1.31 to hit $74.56 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 1.57% or 1.23 to trade at $79.79 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.14% to 1.09, while USD/JPY fell 0.01% to 148.12.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.07% at 103.14.
