Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Technology, Consumer Services and Telecoms sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.13%, while the S&P 500 index climbed 0.47%, and the NASDAQ Composite index climbed 0.51%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were American Express Company (NYSE:AXP), which rose 1.85% or 4.31 points to trade at 237.85 at the close. Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) added 1.37% or 2.93 points to end at 216.24 and Salesforce Inc (NYSE:CRM) was up 1.37% or 3.41 points to 252.53 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC), which lost 3.81% or 0.78 points to trade at 19.71 in late trade. Unitedhealth Group (NYSE:UNH) declined 1.32% or 7.48 points to end at 558.76 and McDonald’s Corporation (NYSE:MCD) shed 1.21% or 3.28 points to 267.91.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Akamai Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:AKAM) which rose 10.86% to 101.51, Expedia Inc (NASDAQ:EXPE) which was up 10.21% to settle at 130.01 and Eli Lilly and Company (NYSE:LLY) which gained 5.49% to close at 891.68.
The worst performers were Insulet Corporation (NASDAQ:PODD) which was down 8.81% to 182.19 in late trade, Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) which lost 3.81% to settle at 19.71 and Las Vegas Sands Corp (NYSE:LVS) which was down 3.14% to 38.57 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Cingulate Inc (NASDAQ:CING) which rose 936.02% to 2.44, FSD Pharma Inc Class B (NASDAQ:HUGE) which was up 118.34% to settle at 0.20 and Big Tree Cloud Holdings Ltd (NASDAQ:DSY) which gained 69.55% to close at 1.47.
The worst performers were Vicinity Motor Corp (NASDAQ:VEV) which was down 61.79% to 0.12 in late trade, AN2 Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:ANTX) which lost 60.98% to settle at 1.03 and Meta Materials Inc (NASDAQ:MMAT) which was down 54.74% to 0.94 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1445 to 1368 and 94 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1931 fell and 1358 advanced, while 128 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 14.38% to 20.37.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.22% or 5.50 to $2,468.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 1.06% or 0.81 to hit $77.00 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 0.69% or 0.55 to trade at $79.71 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.00% to 1.09, while USD/JPY fell 0.43% to 146.65.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.06% at 102.96.
