Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Pharmaceuticals & Biotech, Mobile Telecommunications and Beverage sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.36%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Johnson Matthey PLC (LON:JMAT), which rose 3.78% or 91.0 points to trade at 2501.0 at the close. Standard Life Aberdeen PLC (LON:SLA) added 3.20% or 8.90 points to end at 287.40 and Melrose Industries PLC (LON:MRON) was up 3.07% or 5.01 points to 168.01 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Carnival PLC (LON:CCL), which lost 3.50% or 49.0 points to trade at 1350.0 in late trade. Rightmove PLC (LON:RMV) declined 3.19% or 20.80 points to end at 632.20 and Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR) shed 3.12% or 3.70 points to 115.05.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1191 to 1096 and 70 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 1.01% or 18.50 to $1850.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 1.28% or 0.60 to hit $47.59 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 0.89% or 0.45 to trade at $50.74 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.87% to 1.3438, while EUR/GBP fell 0.72% to 0.9046.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.24% at 90.433.
