Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Fixed Line Telecommunications, Oil & Gas Producers and General Retailers sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.07%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Aviva PLC (LON:AV), which rose 4.57% or 17.20 points to trade at 393.50 at the close. Melrose Industries PLC (LON:MRON) added 4.57% or 21.90 points to end at 501.20 and Persimmon PLC (LON:PSN) was up 4.01% or 41.00 points to 1,064.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Ocado Group PLC (LON:OCDO), which lost 4.07% or 32.60 points to trade at 769.00 in late trade. International Consolidated Airlines Group S.A. (LON:ICAG) declined 2.87% or 4.55 points to end at 153.80 and BP PLC (LON:BP) shed 2.79% or 14.60 points to 508.20.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 941 to 628 and 530 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.14% or 2.75 to $1,932.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 0.36% or 0.32 to hit $88.52 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 0.24% or 0.22 to trade at $91.84 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.16% to 1.25, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.21% to 0.86.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.07% at 104.26.
