Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Industrial Transportation, Financial Services and Healthcare Equipment & Services sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 1.93%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Old Mutual PLC (LON:OML), which rose 5.43% or 12.10 points to trade at 234.80 at the close. Provident Financial (LON:PFG) added 4.87% or 34.00 points to end at 732.00 and Royal Mail PLC (LON:RMG) was up 4.64% or 23.60 points to 532.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Randgold Resources Ltd (LON:RRS), which lost 3.78% or 244.00 points to trade at 6214.00 in late trade. Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) declined 2.76% or 35.50 points to end at 1249.50 and Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO) shed 1.45% or 13.20 points to 899.40.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1629 to 428 and 108 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.65% or 8.70 to $1320.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 2.38% or 1.51 to hit $61.88 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 1.75% or 1.17 to trade at $65.69 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.59% to 1.3868, while EUR/GBP fell 0.20% to 0.8854.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.66% at 90.11.
