Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Forestry & Paper and Mining sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 1.06%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Capita PLC (LON:CPI), which rose 4.32% or 4.50 points to trade at 108.70 at the close. Mediclinic International PLC (LON:MDCM) added 3.96% or 12.70 points to end at 333.10 and GlaxoSmithKline PLC (LON:GSK) was up 3.78% or 54.8 points to 1503.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Kingfisher PLC (LON:KGF), which lost 2.72% or 6.00 points to trade at 214.40 in late trade. Randgold Resources Ltd (LON:RRS) declined 2.58% or 178.00 points to end at 6708.00 and Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK) shed 2.56% or 48.50 points to 1843.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1160 to 911 and 281 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.41% or 5.10 to $1258.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 2.96% or 1.38 to hit $47.98 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 2.31% or 1.30 to trade at $57.56 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.21% to 1.2666, while EUR/GBP rose 0.33% to 0.9019.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.49% at 96.100.
