Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Oil & Gas Producers and Aerospace & Defense sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.71%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Tui AG (LON:TUIT), which rose 5.95% or 22.40 points to trade at 399.00 at the close. EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ) added 5.84% or 54.00 points to end at 978.00 and Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN) was up 5.44% or 15.60 points to 302.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Tesco PLC (LON:TSCO), which lost 2.02% or 4.70 points to trade at 227.40 in late trade. Auto Trader Group Plc (LON:AUTOA) declined 2.00% or 11.80 points to end at 578.60 and B&M European Value Retail SA (LON:BMEB) shed 1.85% or 10.20 points to 539.80.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1178 to 1086 and 212 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.62% or 10.75 to $1736.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 4.84% or 2.91 to hit $63.09 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 4.48% or 2.85 to trade at $66.52 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.29% to 1.3788, while EUR/GBP fell 0.04% to 0.8685.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.22% at 91.645.
