Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the General Industrial, Industrial Metals & Mining and Financial Services sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.66% to hit a new 52-week high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Melrose Industries PLC (LON:MRON), which rose 3.02% or 4.95 points to trade at 168.85 at the close. Intermediate Capital Group PLC (LON:ICP) added 2.97% or 66.00 points to end at 2289.00 and Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN) was up 2.88% or 9.20 points to 329.10 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Informa PLC (LON:INF), which lost 2.62% or 14.60 points to trade at 543.20 in late trade. BT Group PLC (LON:BT) declined 1.72% or 3.35 points to end at 191.80 and Imperial Brands PLC (LON:IMB) shed 1.01% or 16.50 points to 1608.50.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1257 to 914 and 254 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.90% or 17.05 to $1879.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 0.88% or 0.62 to hit $70.91 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 0.40% or 0.29 to trade at $72.81 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.47% to 1.4107, while EUR/GBP fell 0.08% to 0.8576.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.56% at 90.580.
