Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Real Estate Investment Trusts REITs, Real Estate and Food & Drug Retailers sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.19%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Airtel Africa Plc (LON:AAF), which rose 5.16% or 5.15 points to trade at 105.00 at the close. Vistry Group PLC (LON:VTYV) added 2.66% or 17.50 points to end at 675.00 and Londonmetric Property Plc (LON:LMPL) was up 2.26% or 4.30 points to 194.30 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Smurfit WestRock PLC (LON:SWR), which lost 3.19% or 141.00 points to trade at 4,274.00 in late trade. Entain PLC (LON:ENT) declined 2.61% or 21.00 points to end at 783.20 and DS Smith PLC (LON:SMDS) shed 2.02% or 12.00 points to 582.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 908 to 842 and 696 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.70% or 18.61 to $2,664.91 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 0.51% or 0.35 to hit $68.42 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 0.55% or 0.40 to trade at $71.92 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.88% to 1.27, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.00% to 0.83.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 1.00% at 105.90.
