Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Electricity, Mining and Forestry & Paper sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the FTSE 100 rose 0.54% to hit a new all time high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the FTSE 100 were Bhp Billiton (LONDON:BLT), which rose 6.24% or 96.50 points to trade at 1643.50 at the close. Anglo American (LONDON:AAL) added 3.25% or 39.00 points to end at 1237.00 and Fresnillo Plc (LONDON:FRES) was up 3.05% or 24.50 points to 827.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Meggitt (LONDON:MGGT), which lost 5.95% or 34.00 points to trade at 537.00 in late trade. Persimmon (LONDON:PSN) declined 3.51% or 60.00 points to end at 1650.00 and GKN (LONDON:GKN) shed 3.21% or 12.40 points to 373.60.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1117 to 925 and 406 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for April delivery was down 0.53% or 6.40 to $1194.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude Oil for delivery in April rose 0.89% or 0.44 to hit $49.89 a barrel, while the April Brent Oil contract rose 0.82% or 0.48 to trade at $59.38 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.03% to 1.5452, while EUR/GBP fell 0.12% to 0.7323.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.11% at 94.77.
