Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Consumer Durables, Metals and Fast Moving Consumer Goods sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 0.07% to hit a new 3-month low, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 0.30%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were NTPC Limited (NS:NTPC), which rose 4.41% or 6.70 points to trade at 158.50 at the close. Eicher Motors Ltd. (NS:EICH) added 3.47% or 729.00 points to end at 21765.00 and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NS:SUN) was up 2.65% or 17.75 points to 687.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. (NS:ZEE), which lost 2.83% or 13.00 points to trade at 446.00 in late trade. Asian Paints Ltd. (NS:ASPN) declined 2.01% or 18.45 points to end at 900.00 and TATA STEEL LIMITED (NS:TISC) shed 1.97% or 7.75 points to 385.00.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were NTPC Limited (BO:NTPC) which rose 4.58% to 158.60, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which was up 2.62% to settle at 688.25 and Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which gained 2.33% to close at 303.25.
The worst performers were TATA STEEL LIMITED (BO:TISC) which was down 2.00% to 385.10 in late trade, ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which lost 1.92% to settle at 227.90 and Gail (India) Ltd. (BO:GAIL) which was down 1.76% to 427.35 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 778 to 702 and 47 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1314 rose and 1231 declined, while 165 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 4.84% to 17.8050.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was down 0.87% or 10.55 to $1206.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 0.42% or 0.19 to hit $45.23 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 0.26% or 0.12 to trade at $46.37 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.18% to 68.156, while EUR/INR rose 0.11% to 72.3530.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.13% at 101.13.
