Investing.com – Russia equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Power, Telecoms and Mining sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Moscow, the MOEX Russia fell 0.83%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the MOEX Russia were MegaFon OAO (MCX:MFON), which rose 2.09% or 12.60 points to trade at 614.50 at the close. Surgut-pref (MCX:SNGS_p) added 1.83% or 0.630 points to end at 35.100 and PhosAgro ao (MCX:PHOR) was up 1.33% or 30.0 points to 2293.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included SG mechel (MCX:MTLR), which lost 4.55% or 4.35 points to trade at 91.30 in late trade. Sberbank Rossii PAO (MCX:SBER) declined 4.26% or 8.59 points to end at 193.20 and Sberbank Rossii OAO Pref (MCX:SBER_p) shed 3.91% or 6.91 points to 169.74.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 161 to 54 and 21 ended unchanged on the Moscow Stock Exchange.
The Russian VIX, which measures the implied volatility of MOEX Russia options, was up 0.89% to 26.070 a new 1-month high.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.02% or 0.20 to $1218.10 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 3.98% or 2.75 to hit $66.42 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 3.74% or 2.79 to trade at $71.86 a barrel.
USD/RUB was up 2.46% to 65.0615, while EUR/RUB rose 2.40% to 75.4160.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.06% at 95.06.
