Investing.com – Russia equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Power, Oil & Gas and Mining sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Moscow, the MICEX rose 1.24%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the MICEX were Rostelecom (MCX:RTKM), which rose 4.10% or 3.87 points to trade at 98.35 at the close. Rosneft (MCX:ROSN) added 3.85% or 11.40 points to end at 307.80 and AK Transneft OAO Pref (MCX:TRNF_p) was up 3.60% or 6500 points to 187000 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Ros Agro PLC (MCX:AGRO), which lost 3.68% or 45 points to trade at 1177 in late trade. Lenta Ltd (MCX:LNTA) declined 2.49% or 11 points to end at 430 and Magnit (MCX:MGNT) shed 1.56% or 165.0 points to 10410.0.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 127 to 92 and 22 ended unchanged on the Moscow Stock Exchange.
The Russian VIX, which measures the implied volatility of MICEX options, was up 3.57% to 36.580.
In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was down 0.70% or 8.70 to $1228.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 0.63% or 0.24 to hit $38.52 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 1.00% or 0.40 to trade at $40.25 a barrel.
USD/RUB was down 0.31% to 67.8819, while EUR/RUB fell 0.32% to 76.894.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.30% at 94.88.
