India shares higher at close of trade; Nifty 50 up 0.18%

Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Real Estate, Banking and Fast Moving Consumer Goods sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 rose 0.18%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index climbed 0.20%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were State Bank Of India (NS:SBI), which rose 2.58% or 6.70 points to trade at 266.60 at the close. Bank Of Baroda (NS:BOB) added 2.30% or 3.65 points to end at 162.15 and Tata Power Co. Ltd (NS:TTPW) was up 2.05% or 1.55 points to 77.10 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Bharti Infratel Limited (NS:BHRI), which lost 2.93% or 10.850 points to trade at 359.400 in late trade. Bajaj Auto Limited (NS:BAJA) declined 2.11% or 58.60 points to end at 2720.00 and Grasim Industries Ltd (NS:GRAS) shed 1.73% or 15.50 points to 878.80.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which rose 2.41% to 266.00, ICICI Bank Ltd. (BO:ICBK) which was up 2.35% to settle at 268.35 and Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:ONGC) which gained 1.61% to close at 306.90.

The worst performers were Bajaj Auto Limited (BO:BAJA) which was down 2.05% to 2717.00 in late trade, Coal India Limited (BO:COAL) which lost 1.60% to settle at 307.20 and Housing Development Finance Corp. (BO:HDFC) which was down 1.56% to 1267.10 at the close.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 771 to 714 and 58 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1423 rose and 1162 declined, while 170 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.

The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 2.95% to 15.0675 a new 1-month low.

In commodities trading, Gold for February delivery was down 0.12% or 1.45 to $1170.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 0.85% or 0.43 to hit $51.27 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 0.58% or 0.31 to trade at $54.20 a barrel.

USD/INR was up 0.10% to 67.435, while EUR/INR fell 0.17% to 71.5960.

The US Dollar Index was up 0.03% at 101.14.
