Investing.com – Germany equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Utilities, Technology and Telecoms sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX declined 0.99%, while the MDAX index declined 0.62%, and the TecDAX index declined 1.03%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were Deutsche Boerse NA O.N. (DE:DB1Gn), which rose 5.82% or 4.110 points to trade at 74.780 at the close. Siemens AG NA (DE:SIEGn) added 1.39% or 1.250 points to end at 91.210 and Heidelbergcement AG O.N. (DE:HEIG) was up 1.37% or 1.060 points to 78.460 in late trade.
Biggest losers included RWE AG ST O.N. (DE:RWEG), which lost 3.66% or 0.440 points to trade at 11.585 in late trade. Linde AG O.N. (DE:LING) declined 3.40% or 4.450 points to end at 126.250 and E.ON SE NA (DE:EONGn) shed 2.97% or 0.258 points to 8.416.
The top performers on the MDAX were Leoni AG NA O.N. (DE:LEOGn) which rose 2.84% to 31.490, Bilfinger SE O.N. (DE:GBFG) which was up 2.66% to settle at 38.625 and Stroeer SE (DE:SAXG) which gained 1.22% to close at 44.640.
The worst performers were Fraport AG (DE:FRAG) which was down 6.11% to 50.230 in late trade, Hugo Boss AG NA O.N. (DE:BOSSn) which lost 3.45% to settle at 55.660 and Steinhoff International Holdings NV (DE:SNHG) which was down 1.99% to 5.16 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were CompuGroup Medical AG O.N. (DE:COPMa) which rose 4.26% to 36.000, Carl Zeiss Meditec AG (DE:AFXG) which was up 1.65% to settle at 29.830 and Evotec AG O.N. (DE:EVTG) which gained 1.48% to close at 3.508.
The worst performers were Dialog Semiconductor (DE:DLGS) which was down 8.60% to 27.250 in late trade, Adva Optical Networking SE (DE:ADAG) which lost 3.53% to settle at 8.837 and Drillisch AG O.N. (DE:DRIG) which was down 2.24% to 35.125 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 568 to 301 and 25 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was up 2.87% to 23.63 a new 1-month high.
In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was down 0.82% or 10.55 to $1281.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 0.69% or 0.30 to hit $43.95 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 0.04% or 0.02 to trade at $44.95 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.03% to 1.1494, while EUR/GBP rose 0.27% to 0.7931.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.25% at 93.25.
