Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Mining, Chemical, Petroleum & Plastic and Transportation Equipment sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 lost 0.37%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Sumitomo Dainippon Pharma Co Ltd (T:4506), which rose 2.93% or 81.0 points to trade at 2849.0 at the close. Daiichi Sankyo Co., Ltd. (T:4568) added 2.78% or 110.0 points to end at 4060.0 and Terumo Corp. (T:4543) was up 2.14% or 143.0 points to 6827.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Inpex Corp. (T:1605), which lost 3.84% or 43.5 points to trade at 1090.5 in late trade. Nissan Chemical Industries, Ltd. (T:4021) declined 3.09% or 180.0 points to end at 5640.0 and Kubota Corp. (T:6326) shed 2.90% or 45.5 points to 1526.0.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 2101 to 1387 and 229 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 0.41% to 17.04.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for April delivery was down 0.36% or 0.20 to $55.28 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in May fell 0.05% or 0.03 to hit $64.88 a barrel, while the April Gold Futures contract fell 0.20% or 2.65 to trade at $1326.85 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.20% to 110.84, while EUR/JPY fell 0.21% to 125.88.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.00% at 96.268.
