Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Mining, Trading and Insurance sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 fell 0.13%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Dainippon Screen Mfg. Co., Ltd. (T:7735), which rose 4.00% or 320.0 points to trade at 8315.0 at the close. Showa Shell Sekiyu K.K. (T:5002) added 3.80% or 66.0 points to end at 1803.0 and Minebea Mitsumi Inc (T:6479) was up 3.62% or 70.0 points to 2006.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Shiseido Co., Ltd. (T:4911), which lost 4.81% or 423.0 points to trade at 8372.0 in late trade. Nippon Paper Industries Co., Ltd. (T:3863) declined 3.24% or 58.0 points to end at 1730.0 and Meiji Holdings Co., Ltd. (T:2269) shed 3.00% or 280.0 points to 9050.0.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1739 to 1626 and 210 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 3.42% to 15.83 a new 1-month low.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for September delivery was down 0.78% or 0.53 to $67.22 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in September fell 0.81% or 0.59 to hit $72.31 a barrel, while the August Gold Futures contract fell 0.78% or 9.60 to trade at $1218.30 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.10% to 112.95, while EUR/JPY fell 0.13% to 131.17.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.32% at 95.14.
