Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Banking, Green Energy and Healthcare sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the S&P CNX Nifty lost 1.13% to hit a new 6-month low, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 1.22%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P CNX Nifty were Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (NSE:BHEL), which rose 3.96% or 9.15 points to trade at 240.15 at the close. Cairn India Limited (NSE:CAIL) added 3.10% or 3.90 points to end at 129.75 and Tata Power Co. Ltd (NSE:TTPW) was up 2.91% or 1.70 points to 60.20 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Ambuja Cements Ltd. (NSE:ABUJ), which lost 4.53% or 9.40 points to trade at 198.20 in late trade. Tech Mahindra Limited (NSE:TEML) declined 3.92% or 20.70 points to end at 507.30 and Housing Development Finance Corp. (NSE:HDFC) shed 3.77% or 43.20 points to 1102.35.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (BO:BHEL) which rose 3.45% to 240.20, Tata Motors Ltd. (BO:TAMO) which was up 2.31% to settle at 336.80 and Tata Power Co. Ltd (BO:TTPW) which gained 2.29% to close at 60.20.
The worst performers were Housing Development Finance Corp. (BO:HDFC) which was down 3.77% to 1102.45 in late trade, Hero MotoCorp Limited (BO:HROM) which lost 3.45% to settle at 2391.95 and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which was down 3.07% to 1215.30 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 723 to 692 and 8 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 375 rose and 363 declined, while 7 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of S&P CNX Nifty options, was down 4.96% to 25.5150.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was down 0.64% or 7.30 to $1131.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 0.09% or 0.04 to hit $39.34 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 0.32% or 0.14 to trade at $43.35 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.29% to 66.091, while EUR/INR fell 1.06% to 75.5290.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.65% at 94.53.
