Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Public Sector Undertakings, Real Estate and Metals sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 1.25% to hit a new 1-month low, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 1.15%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were ICICI Bank Ltd (NS:ICBK), which rose 0.67% or 8.45 points to trade at 1,267.50 at the close. Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NS:BRTI) fell 0.02% or 0.30 points to end at 1,692.25 and Infosys Ltd (NS:INFY) was down 0.06% or 1.15 points to 1,851.60 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Adani Enterprises Ltd (NS:ADEL), which lost 3.88% or 113.85 points to trade at 2,823.80 in late trade. Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (NS:MAHM) declined 3.70% or 111.00 points to end at 2,887.20 and Coal India Ltd (NS:COAL) shed 3.51% or 17.05 points to 468.35.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were ICICI Bank Ltd (BO:ICBK) which rose 0.77% to 1,269.00, Nestle India Ltd (BO:NEST) which was up 0.13% to settle at 2,358.00 and Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which unchanged 0.00% to close at 1,852.50.
The worst performers were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which was down 3.62% to 2,888.65 in late trade, State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which lost 2.97% to settle at 790.00 and Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which was down 2.92% to 321.35 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 2357 to 137 and 83 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 3240 fell and 553 advanced, while 75 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 4.21% to 14.34.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.47% or 13.00 to $2,751.90 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 0.94% or 0.66 to hit $70.70 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 0.87% or 0.65 to trade at $74.94 a barrel.
USD/INR was unchanged 0.00% to 84.08, while EUR/INR rose 0.10% to 91.01.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.10% at 103.73.
