Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Real Estate, Metals and Banking sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 0.90%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 0.93%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (NS:IOC), which rose 4.52% or 7.10 points to trade at 164.35 at the close. Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS:ONGC) added 4.36% or 6.65 points to end at 158.65 and Coal India Ltd (NS:COAL) was up 2.26% or 5.25 points to 237.20 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. (NS:ZEE), which lost 4.28% or 18.60 points to trade at 416.45 in late trade. Vedanta Ltd (NS:VDAN) declined 3.28% or 5.70 points to end at 168.25 and Bharti Infratel Ltd (NS:BHRI) shed 3.53% or 11.15 points to 306.60.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:ONGC) which rose 3.90% to 158.50, Coal India Ltd (BO:COAL) which was up 2.09% to settle at 236.80 and Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which gained 1.56% to close at 201.60.
The worst performers were Vedanta Ltd (BO:VDAN) which was down 3.28% to 168.25 in late trade, Tata Motors Ltd (BO:TAMO) which lost 2.31% to settle at 171.35 and Yes Bank Ltd (BO:YESB) which was down 2.18% to 247.00 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1272 to 364 and 46 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1835 fell and 758 advanced, while 154 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 2.44% to 16.6725.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.35% or 4.55 to $1323.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 0.03% or 0.02 to hit $59.02 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 0.28% or 0.19 to trade at $66.56 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.37% to 68.918, while EUR/INR fell 0.36% to 78.0010.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.09% at 96.060.
