Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Metals, Public Sector Undertakings and Capital Goods sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 0.89%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 0.72%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Hero MotoCorp Ltd (NS:HROM), which rose 1.64% or 43.75 points to trade at 2714.25 at the close. Infosys Ltd (NS:INFY) added 0.82% or 6.50 points to end at 799.45 and Bajaj Auto Ltd (NS:BAJA) was up 0.41% or 11.25 points to 2764.80 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Tata Motors Ltd (NS:TAMO), which lost 9.57% or 11.85 points to trade at 112.40 in late trade. Yes Bank Ltd (NS:YESB) declined 8.64% or 6.15 points to end at 65.40 and Indiabulls Housing Finance Ltd (NS:INBF) shed 8.94% or 46.60 points to 483.55.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Hero MotoCorp Ltd (BO:HROM) which rose 1.78% to 2716.90, Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which was up 0.84% to settle at 799.55 and Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO:TEML) which gained 0.74% to close at 673.45.
The worst performers were Tata Motors Ltd (BO:TAMO) which was down 9.29% to 112.30 in late trade, Yes Bank Ltd (BO:YESB) which lost 8.21% to settle at 65.40 and Tata Motors Ltd DVR (BO:TAMdv) which was down 8.01% to 52.85 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1216 to 357 and 58 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1763 fell and 608 advanced, while 144 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 2.34% to 17.0225.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.25% or 3.85 to $1511.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 1.05% or 0.59 to hit $56.72 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 1.40% or 0.84 to trade at $60.87 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.05% to 71.498, while EUR/INR fell 0.02% to 79.3840.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.01% at 98.058.
