Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Public Sector Undertakings, Banking and Metals sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 0.85%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 0.87%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Titan Company Ltd (NS:TITN), which rose 1.90% or 62.95 points to trade at 3,383.80 at the close. Apollo Hospitals Enterprises Ltd. (NS:APLH) added 1.50% or 97.60 points to end at 6,600.00 and Tata Consumer Products Ltd (NS:TACN) was up 0.86% or 10.05 points to 1,180.85 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:BPCL), which lost 3.54% or 11.80 points to trade at 321.60 in late trade. HDFC Bank Ltd (NS:HDBK) declined 3.27% or 54.25 points to end at 1,605.85 and HDFC Life Insurance Company Ltd (NS:HDFL) shed 2.78% or 19.50 points to 682.95.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Titan Company Ltd (BO:TITN) which rose 1.80% to 3,385.00, HCL Technologies Ltd (BO:HCLT) which was up 0.57% to settle at 1,593.65 and Nestle India Ltd (BO:NEST) which gained 0.36% to close at 2,482.00.
The worst performers were HDFC Bank Ltd (BO:HDBK) which was down 3.29% to 1,606.45 in late trade, Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which lost 2.37% to settle at 148.45 and Bajaj Finance Ltd (BO:BJFN) which was down 2.02% to 6,477.00 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1869 to 591 and 24 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2517 fell and 1256 advanced, while 87 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 2.71% to 16.30.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.13% or 3.25 to $2,500.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 0.21% or 0.17 to hit $79.89 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 0.26% or 0.21 to trade at $82.09 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.03% to 83.97, while EUR/INR fell 0.02% to 91.73.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.05% at 103.02.
