Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the IT, Technology and Public Sector Undertakings sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 0.84%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 0.84%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Grasim Industries Ltd (NS:GRAS), which rose 1.22% or 13.40 points to trade at 1111.45 at the close. AXIS Bank Ltd (NS:AXBK) added 0.90% or 4.40 points to end at 494.80 and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (NS:MAHM) was up 0.62% or 8.55 points to 1378.55 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Infosys Ltd (NS:INFY), which lost 5.40% or 49.85 points to trade at 873.40 in late trade. Bank of Baroda Ltd (NS:BOB) declined 3.46% or 5.10 points to end at 142.10 and Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. (NS:IOC) shed 3.31% or 14.15 points to 413.20.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which rose 0.70% to 494.15, Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which was up 0.34% to settle at 2521.40 and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which gained 0.27% to close at 1374.85.
The worst performers were Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which was down 5.37% to 873.50 in late trade, Adani Port and Special Economic Zone Ltd (BO:APSE) which lost 2.74% to settle at 376.05 and Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (BO:REDY) which was down 2.51% to 1933.15 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1099 to 457 and 11 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1701 fell and 843 advanced, while 116 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 1.68% to 14.8150.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.11% or 1.38 to $1292.98 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 0.29% or 0.14 to hit $48.80 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 0.09% or 0.05 to trade at $52.67 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.03% to 64.101, while EUR/INR fell 0.08% to 75.3132.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.02% at 93.38.
