Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the IT, Metals and Public Sector Undertakings sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 0.75%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 0.81%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Aurobindo Pharma Ltd. (NS:ARBN), which rose 4.34% or 33.40 points to trade at 803.25 at the close. Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NS:BRTI) added 2.95% or 10.55 points to end at 368.35 and Bharti Infratel Limited (NS:BHRI) was up 2.13% or 8.000 points to 383.650 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Cairn India Limited (NS:CAIL), which lost 3.39% or 5.10 points to trade at 145.40 in late trade. Coal India Limited (NS:COAL) declined 3.29% or 9.50 points to end at 279.15 and Lupin Ltd (NS:LUPN) shed 2.68% or 43.45 points to 1575.60.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which rose 1.97% to 364.90, Tata Power Co. Ltd (BO:TTPW) which was up 1.35% to settle at 71.10 and Housing Development Finance Corp. (BO:HDFC) which gained 0.62% to close at 1099.50.
The worst performers were Coal India Limited (BO:COAL) which was down 3.07% to 279.85 in late trade, Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (BO:BHEL) which lost 2.58% to settle at 124.50 and ICICI Bank Ltd. (BO:ICBK) which was down 2.47% to 221.35 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 823 to 604 and 67 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 517 fell and 319 advanced, while 22 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 2.16% to 17.4625.
In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was up 0.16% or 2.10 to $1297.90 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 1.30% or 0.58 to hit $44.20 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 0.98% or 0.45 to trade at $45.38 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.14% to 66.441, while EUR/INR rose 0.56% to 76.9610.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.35% at 92.21.
