Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Metals, Capital Goods and Real Estate sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 0.64%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 0.63%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Adani Enterprises Ltd (NS:ADEL), which rose 7.57% or 182.40 points to trade at 2,592.35 at the close. HCL Technologies Ltd (NS:HCLT) added 1.95% or 36.95 points to end at 1,928.95 and Tech Mahindra Ltd (NS:TEML) was up 1.71% or 29.20 points to 1,740.85 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC), which lost 2.64% or 16.30 points to trade at 601.10 in late trade. Bharat Electronics Ltd (NS:BAJE) declined 2.45% or 7.15 points to end at 284.90 and Trent Ltd (NS:TREN) shed 2.30% or 163.95 points to 6,954.35.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were HCL Technologies Ltd (BO:HCLT) which rose 1.30% to 1,916.20, Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO:TEML) which was up 1.16% to settle at 1,731.70 and IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which gained 0.77% to close at 960.85.
The worst performers were Tata Motors Ltd (BO:TAMO) which was down 1.94% to 736.00 in late trade, JSW Steel Ltd (BO:JSTL) which lost 1.65% to settle at 898.00 and Titan Company Ltd (BO:TITN) which was down 1.57% to 3,258.40 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1776 to 762 and 147 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2495 fell and 1433 advanced, while 143 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 5.53% to 13.97.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.28% or 7.49 to $2,624.41 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 0.11% or 0.08 to hit $70.52 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 0.12% or 0.09 to trade at $73.70 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.15% to 85.52, while EUR/INR fell 0.05% to 89.27.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.09% at 107.70.
