Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Fast Moving Consumer Goods, Banking and Real Estate sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 0.64% to hit a new 1-month low, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 0.80%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Yes Bank Ltd (NS:YESB), which rose 9.49% or 7.90 points to trade at 91.15 at the close. Vedanta Ltd (NS:VDAN) added 4.09% or 6.60 points to end at 167.25 and Indiabulls Housing Finance Ltd (NS:INBF) was up 3.08% or 19.55 points to 655.90 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Bajaj Finserv Ltd (NS:BJFS), which lost 5.57% or 421.45 points to trade at 7162.45 in late trade. Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (NS:HDFC) declined 5.26% or 121.25 points to end at 2186.90 and Eicher Motors Ltd. (NS:EICH) shed 3.48% or 615.00 points to 17072.00.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Yes Bank Ltd (BO:YESB) which rose 9.49% to 91.15, Vedanta Ltd (BO:VDAN) which was up 3.85% to settle at 167.25 and Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:RELI) which gained 2.52% to close at 1280.50.
The worst performers were Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (BO:HDFC) which was down 5.09% to 2186.60 in late trade, HDFC Bank Ltd (BO:HDBK) which lost 3.32% to settle at 2297.05 and Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (BO:KTKM) which was down 3.08% to 1453.65 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1113 to 465 and 62 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1636 fell and 793 advanced, while 143 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 3.96% to 13.0100.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.10% or 1.45 to $1428.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 1.65% or 0.92 to hit $56.55 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 2.02% or 1.26 to trade at $63.73 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.13% to 68.938, while EUR/INR rose 0.19% to 77.3720.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.02% at 96.833.
