Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Metals, Public Sector Undertakings and Real Estate sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 0.61%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 0.57%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Britannia Industries Ltd (NS:BRIT), which rose 4.85% or 151.20 points to trade at 3269.75 at the close. Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (NS:TCS) added 3.71% or 78.05 points to end at 2178.60 and Reliance Industries Ltd (NS:RELI) was up 2.89% or 41.30 points to 1472.30 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Yes Bank Ltd (NS:YESB), which lost 5.68% or 4.15 points to trade at 68.20 in late trade. GAIL Ltd (NS:GAIL) declined 4.83% or 6.30 points to end at 123.85 and Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. (NS:ZEE) shed 4.65% or 14.20 points to 290.55.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which rose 3.76% to 2178.55, Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:RELI) which was up 3.10% to settle at 1472.00 and Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which gained 0.63% to close at 2091.55.
The worst performers were Yes Bank Ltd (BO:YESB) which was down 6.51% to 68.25 in late trade, State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which lost 3.69% to settle at 306.55 and AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which was down 3.18% to 710.25 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 997 to 568 and 61 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1534 fell and 902 advanced, while 157 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 1.31% to 16.4625.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.79% or 11.55 to $1465.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 0.77% or 0.44 to hit $56.36 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 1.18% or 0.73 to trade at $61.33 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.37% to 72.045, while EUR/INR rose 0.43% to 79.3500.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.03% at 98.180.
