Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Fast Moving Consumer Goods, Banking and Green Energy sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 0.54%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 0.67%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Bajaj Finance Ltd (NS:BJFN), which rose 7.71% or 148.00 points to trade at 2066.50 at the close. Bajaj Finserv Ltd (NS:BJFS) added 4.49% or 238.80 points to end at 5569.25 and Coal India Ltd (NS:COAL) was up 2.98% or 7.85 points to 271.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC), which lost 3.15% or 7.55 points to trade at 233.05 in late trade. UPL Ltd (NS:UPLL) declined 2.58% or 18.75 points to end at 707.10 and ITC Ltd (NS:ITC) shed 2.36% or 6.75 points to 278.95.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Coal India Ltd (BO:COAL) which rose 2.53% to 271.40, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which was up 1.75% to settle at 480.10 and Tata Motors Ltd (BO:TAMO) which gained 1.53% to close at 315.15.
The worst performers were ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which was down 2.43% to 279.00 in late trade, Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which lost 2.34% to settle at 366.55 and AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which was down 2.08% to 537.90 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 852 to 740 and 42 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1355 rose and 1189 declined, while 120 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 0.20% to 13.4075.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.43% or 5.60 to $1285.90 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 0.87% or 0.62 to hit $72.11 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 0.79% or 0.63 to trade at $79.91 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.00% to 67.725, while EUR/INR fell 0.29% to 79.7936.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.18% at 93.44.
