Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Metals, Power and Real Estate sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 0.53%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 0.45%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Asian Paints Ltd. (NS:ASPN), which rose 2.26% or 28.60 points to trade at 1293.05 at the close. Titan Company Ltd (NS:TITN) added 2.15% or 18.90 points to end at 897.40 and Infosys Ltd (NS:INFY) was up 2.10% or 27.50 points to 1334.70 in late trade.
Biggest losers included NTPC Ltd (NS:NTPC), which lost 3.51% or 5.60 points to trade at 153.55 in late trade. Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NS:BRTI) declined 3.52% or 13.45 points to end at 368.05 and Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC) shed 3.45% or 7.95 points to 223.25.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN) which rose 2.29% to 1293.00, Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which was up 2.12% to settle at 1334.45 and Vedanta Ltd (BO:VDAN) which gained 1.25% to close at 238.70.
The worst performers were NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which was down 3.67% to 153.60 in late trade, Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which lost 3.54% to settle at 367.50 and Adani Port and Special Economic Zone Ltd (BO:APSE) which was down 2.37% to 363.20 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1075 to 524 and 47 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1630 fell and 913 advanced, while 134 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 3.34% to 13.3700.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.33% or 4.20 to $1250.30 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 0.08% or 0.06 to hit $74.09 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 0.73% or 0.58 to trade at $78.65 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.38% to 68.707, while EUR/INR rose 0.04% to 80.0246.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.31% at 94.52.
