Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Auto, Fast Moving Consumer Goods and Healthcare sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 0.34%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 0.39%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were HDFC Life Insurance Company Ltd (NS:HDFL), which rose 1.76% or 12.55 points to trade at 726.80 at the close. Dr Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (NS:REDY) added 1.50% or 99.25 points to end at 6,710.90 and Grasim Industries Ltd (NS:GRAS) was up 1.03% or 28.30 points to 2,764.10 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (NS:MAHM), which lost 2.78% or 87.80 points to trade at 3,068.00 in late trade. Infosys Ltd (NS:INFY) declined 2.00% or 39.20 points to end at 1,920.10 and Hero MotoCorp Ltd (NS:HROM) shed 1.95% or 107.45 points to 5,398.20.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were HDFC Bank Ltd (BO:HDBK) which rose 0.93% to 1,700.00, Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which was up 0.81% to settle at 1,731.85 and Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:RELI) which gained 0.80% to close at 2,709.50.
The worst performers were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which was down 2.76% to 3,069.00 in late trade, Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which lost 2.05% to settle at 1,918.95 and Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (BO:KTKM) which was down 1.39% to 1,870.00 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1247 to 1228 and 92 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1951 rose and 1829 declined, while 103 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 0.63% to 13.09.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.51% or 13.65 to $2,692.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 0.43% or 0.30 to hit $70.28 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 0.46% or 0.34 to trade at $73.91 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.04% to 84.02, while EUR/INR fell 0.03% to 91.52.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.01% at 103.05.
