Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Power, Metals and Banking sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 0.33%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 0.29%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (NS:MRTI), which rose 4.05% or 222.80 points to trade at 5725.00 at the close. Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NS:BRTI) added 3.41% or 18.60 points to end at 563.50 and Wipro Ltd (NS:WIPR) was up 2.45% or 5.20 points to 217.60 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Bharti Infratel Ltd (NS:BHRI), which lost 4.49% or 9.70 points to trade at 206.30 in late trade. Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (NS:KTKM) declined 2.29% or 29.30 points to end at 1247.50 and ITC Ltd (NS:ITC) shed 2.19% or 4.05 points to 180.95.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which rose 4.15% to 5726.00, Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which was up 3.38% to settle at 563.20 and AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which gained 2.10% to close at 389.45.
The worst performers were Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (BO:KTKM) which was down 2.81% to 1241.00 in late trade, Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which lost 2.00% to settle at 159.20 and ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which was down 1.97% to 181.30 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 901 to 706 and 61 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1369 rose and 1068 declined, while 143 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 1.18% to 33.3550.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.89% or 15.50 to $1721.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 0.86% or 0.33 to hit $38.05 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 0.51% or 0.21 to trade at $40.75 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.12% to 76.151, while EUR/INR fell 0.30% to 85.6050.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.17% at 97.093.
